After much anticipation, and a 9.5 hour flight, we arrived in Rome at 9:15 Sunday morning. We were very thankful for a smooth flight, and that we didn't lose our luggage!!!
We spent the first few hours exploring the sights around our bed and breakfast. This is one of many bridges that crosses the Tiber river.
We attended Sunday evening mass at the NAC (Pontifical North American College). It was absolutely stunning, and just amazing to celebrate mass with so many young men preparing for the priesthood.
The courtyard at the NAC. Those are orange trees, one for every state.
With the deaconate coming up, this was one of the few times of year when women are allowed inside the NAC. Chris took us up to his room. To say that he has a lot of books would be an understatement!!! He has two bookcases full.

Dinner time
Boscaiola - thick spaghetti noodles in a tomato sauce with mozzarerlla cheese and bits of bacon
Eric got a calzone, or as we liked to call it, a hot pocket! Hahaha!
After dinner, Chris took us to his favorite gelato place, the Frigidarium. We ended up returning here two other times! Some gelato facts: it has less fat than ice cream - making the flavors more intense, and is churned at a slower speed than ice cream, making it denser.
Beautiful night sky
Piazza Navona
Fountain of the Four Rivers - created by Bernini in 1651
You might recognize this from the movie Angels and Demons. It's where the last priest was to be killed, and Tom Hanks saved him!
Another Angels and Demons sight - Castel Sant'Angelo
St. Michael the Archangel is on top of the castle, and each of the angels lining this bridge are holding an item from Christ's crucifixion.
Night shot of the Tiber with St. Peter's in the background
St. Peter's Basilica
Very surreal to be here with my cousin, Chris. Truly amazing, and the trip of a lifetime.
Stay tuned for updates on the rest of our adventure!!!
