Blessings

This Christmas season has really made me stop and think of all of the things I am thankful for and that God has blessed me with. It all started when we got our adopt-a-family from work, and I mentioned in an early post that the families we adopted were employees from Centerpoint who were in need of help. When I went to HR to pick out a family and was reading thru the different family needs/wants tears were just streaming down my face, and I quickly realized all of the little things I have that I take for granted. Our family's needs included things like toilet paper, laundry soap, grocery store gift cards, hats, blankets, socks, etc. I had a hard time not buying everything on the list when I was out shopping. I am very proud to say that between myself and my co-workers we were able to provide the family with all of their wants and needs. When I spoke to the woman in charge at HR yesterday she told me that the mother was simply overjoyed when she picked up the gifts. She said she started crying and was very appreciative of all that we were able to do for her. Although I thoroughly enjoy buying gifts for my own family members, I can't even begin to explain the warmth in my heart when I knew I was purchasing something that people truly needed.

It didn't stop there. I was at Borders this week and upon checking out the sales clerk asked me if I would like to purchase a book for a child in need. Of course I couldn't say no, so I picked out a cute little snowman book, and as the lady handed me my purchases she said thank you, and a little child thanks you too! I cried all the way back to my car b/c I just feel so tremendously blessed to have a roof over my head, a warm bed to crawl into, a wonderful husband, two beautiful children with one on the way, and a job that I love.

There is a Christmas song by Alabama that I have fallen in love with, and each time that I hear it I not only start crying, again (those dang hormones!) but it also really makes me take a step back and truly appreciate all of the blessings in my life. So I encourage you to click on this link to hear the song, sit back, close your eyes, listen, and remember all of the wonderous gifts God has blessed you with.

I am right there with you. It is such a blessing to be able to help someone who is truly in need when I have so very much to be thankful for. Thank you for sharing the song with me.
