Well, Madie did get her cast off today! Our appointment was at 1:00 and around 1:30 they called us back. The nurse said, "Today's the big day, let's go get that cast off!" I said, "Don't you want to take some x-rays first?" She said they would do that afterwards, and I was thinking...I just hope they don't have to put it back on!!! Madison didn't care to much for the sound of the saw cutting the cast off, frankly, I don't think Eric or I did either. They nicked her a little on the inside of her leg, but we got some Neosporin to put on there, and it seems to bother me more than it does her. We took two x-rays and then went to the exam room to wait for the doctor. Dr. Jarka came in a few minutes later and said everything looked good. She gave us a copy of the x-rays and went over the results with us. She examined Madie's legs and said that she should be fine and shouldn't need any therapy. She said we don't need to see her anymore unless a problem arises and she hopes the next time she sees us it's at the mall! Amen to that!!!
Dr. Jarka thought that Madie would probably start off crawling and then take to walking a few days later, but she doesn't know my Madison....she was walking by the time I got home from work tonight! She still hobbles a little because I think she's trying to get used to not having that cast, and working on building up her leg strength. It was pretty amazing to see on the x-rays how the bone just grows, and meshes together to heal that break. God truly does work miracles.
We took a nice long bath tonight...until she was all wrinkly...and I don't know who felt better, me or Madison. Eric was sure to keep Barkley in check when we stepped out of the bathroom. I think we were both a little nervous. She's sleeping soundly now, and hopefully she'll have a good night's rest without that heavy cast.
We did get to keep the cast, but we were all too tired tonight for pictures! I'll try and take some tomorrow. Larry is coming down tonight to stay the weekend, and help Eric get some work done on the basement. Madie and I are taking off for Rolla Saturday morning, and I can't wait to see my friends down there!!!
Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. It really means a lot to us. And I'm just so glad that this whole ordeal is over with. As my mother would say, "it was a hard lesson learned" (Thanks Mom!) I'm just glad that my little angel is going to be fine and that she's back on her feet again.
