Day 2 - we scheduled a day trip to Versailles with the Blue Bike Tour
Eric working his photography magic at the train station. We were lucky to catch the train as they'd been on strike the past week. Fortunately the strike was winding down with them adding more trains each day. Gotta love the strikes in Europe! It was a 30 minute train ride to Versailles. When we arrived we had 30 minutes to explore in a farmers market and grab things for a picnic lunch. We were so excited to be able to buy ham for our sandwiches!!!
Hitting the trail to the palace garden! I was in heaven!!!
The Grand Canal
King Louis XIV's royal gardens
The Grand Trianon AKA the summer getaway!
This was my favorite room, bet you can't imagine why!
So peaceful
My handsome prince!! (Ahhhhh!)
Marie-Antoinette had this peasant farm built - the little cottages were so cute!
This was her home on the farm
This is where lovers would come to secretly meet! The windows are made of a special glass where they could see out, but people couldn't see in! Sneaky!!!
The Chateau
The Royal Gates
The Royal Chapel - where Louis XIV and Marie-Antoinette married at the very young age of 16 and 14 respectively
The impressive hall of mirrors - the room is 250 feet long with 17 arched mirrors matched by 17 arched windows, 24 candelabra and Roman statues - simply stunning!
Amazing view over the canal and the beautiful Versailles
