Turtlewatch Qatar

We got to witness the amazing experience of some Hawksbill turtles hatching at Fuwairit beach on the evening of June 27th.  I never associated Doha with turtles until recently.  There's quite the following on the Facebook Qatar Turtlewatch page!!!
Fuwairit beach is about an hour's drive north of where we live.  It's absolutely beautiful.
They were filming a documentary the evening we were there.  Rangers measure and weigh each of the turtles before they are released.  52 baby turtles hatched from the nest that evening!

What we didn't expect was that we'd get to help release them!
Meet "Climber", as Madie affectionately named him - because he kept trying to climb out of his container
 Kaiden and Climber
He was making Kealy a little nervous!

They drew a line in the sand and had all the kids stand behind the line with their turtles.  At the same time they released the brothers and sisters into the sand to race for the sea.
 And they're off!!!
It was adorable watching these clumsy little hatchlings race for the sea

Climber did great!  He came in 3rd place!

This was just such an amazing sight to see.
