He's adjusting well. At first he really didn't like the cast either. Can't say that I blame him. He would put my hand on his leg and just say, "HELP ME" in the saddest voice imaginable. Finally by last night he was hobbling around like a little peg-legged pirate. He didn't care for the shoe part, so I fixed him up with one of my socks with some puff paint on the bottom to make it non-skid. I am pleasantly surprised with how resilient these little ones are. I just keep telling myself how fortunate and blessed we are for them to be as healthy and happy as they are. I know a lot of people have much larger crosses to bear. Needless to say, Kealy is going to be wrapped in bubble wrap until she turns 20, and we have been making lots of lemonade with the lemons we seem to be running into lately!

Making Lots of Lemonade
Lately it just seems like it has been one thing after another in our house. Yesterday was no exception. Sunday, Ka-da-boo was chasing his sister down the hall when he tripped and fell over his own feet. No big deal. He does that all the time. Except this time he wouldn't stand on his left leg. At first I thought maybe he stubbed his toe or rolled his ankle. So we snuggled up for a nap and I truly believed he would be fine when he got up. Nope. He still wouldn't bear weight. I tried to maneuver his ankle and foot around to see if it would hurt and he never said anything. It didn't look bruised or swollen. I wasn't really sure what to make of it. But when he woke up on Monday and was still crawling around or reaching his arms up to me to be picked up I knew we would be making a trip to the doctor. Urgent care opened at 8 and we were there when the doors opened, along with a few others. Luckily we were 3rd in line and got right in. Dr. Phillips (our usual doc) was on rounds for the urgent care that morning and I was so glad to see him. He examined Kaiden, had me try to make him stand up, but he just stood on his right foot like a little pelican. Dr. Phillips said 100% of the time when they won't bear weight there is a fracture someone. Great. So NOT what I wanted to hear. He explained to me that toddlers ligaments are a lot stronger right now than their bones. So as where you or I might have twisted or sprained our ankle, he broke a bone. Dr. Phillips made a call and arranged for us to see Dr. Gupta, a pediatric orthopaedic doctor over on Nall. Dr. Phillips reassured me that this guy was excellent and even said that he has sent his own kids there twice for casts. That made me feel a little better knowing the even the pediatricians kids break their bones! We spent a good 2 hours at Dr. Gupta's, getting x-rays to determine that he has a hairline fracture in the 1st metatarsal on his left foot. For all you non-medical people...it's the long bone on top of your foot behind your big toe. We tried to put a boot on, but Kaiden didn't want any part of that. He kept undoing the Velcro so we ended up having to do a cast. The poor guy was so tuckered out by this point, as was I, that he fell asleep while they were doing that. We were finally able to leave by 12:30 and I was starving!!!
We decided to meet Eric for lunch since we weren't that far. We went over to 5 Guys to grab some burgers. All my little man wanted to do was sit on my lap and snuggle, which was just fine with me. After lunch, we made a quick stop at Target to buy his favorite movie, Cars, as he stepped on the last one and broke it. Did I mention that he's a little clumsy?
I popped the movie in and then baked him some chocolate chip cookies. There's nothing a little chocolate won't cure!
