What a week!!!

I'm not sure how it always seems that my short weeks turn into a complete nightmare, but lately that has been the case, and this week was no exception. Sunday, Kaiden burned his hand on a glass lampshade at the Bahrs house. At first I wasn't quite sure what had happened, but when I walked into the room, both he and Madie were sitting on the piano bench and she was holding the lamp. Not sure if she made him touch the lamp, or if he did it on his own. Regardless, he got a very bad burn. This is his hand Sunday afternoon with some Neosporin on it.
Tuesday I took him to urgent care. He got his hand bandaged up and a Rx for Silvadene ointment. I was told to change the dressing three times a day, and soak it in warm water for 30 minutes. We also got referred to the burn clinic at Children's Mercy.
This is him after we got home from the urgent care visit. He got a Buzz Lightyear sticker and once I told him that his arm was like a space ship, he was okay!!!
A little chocolate cake never hurts either!

Wednesday was our appointment at the burn clinic. I love Children's but it is definitely a place I would prefer to stay away from. Ironically, I was just there last week visiting a friend and her little one. I distinctly remember being on the elevator, and the doors opened on the second floor, the burn unit. I remember thinking to myself, "God, that's a floor I hope I never have to be on" as I continued up to the 5th floor to visit. Little did I know that I would find myself there a week later. I got the call Wednesday morning that our apt. was at 3:30, I had to be there 20 minutes early, and was to pick up a Rx for Roxicet to give to Kaiden 30 minutes prior to his "procedure". I hate the word "procedure". My stomach started churning with the thought of what they would have to do to that poor little hand. Come to find out, Eric was up in St. Joe all day for a meeting, so I quickly got on the phone to try and make arrangements to have the other kids picked up should our appointment run late. I also called the pharmacy to make sure they had the Rx filled. They didn't. Hadn't even received the order. Perfect. I ran downstairs to our hospital pharmacy to see if they could fill it there. Come to find out, you can't get an order over the phone for a class 2 narcotic, you have to hand carry the order in. Which now means I have to go by the peds office, pick up the order, and take it to the pharmacy. Time was of the essence. I got the Rx filled, ran home, changed, pumped some milk for Kealy, threw all of Kaiden's favorite toys, books, snacks, etc into my bag anticipating a long appointment. I picked him up. Doped him up, and we were on our way. We had trouble finding the "burn unit" at Childrens. The security guard pointed me in one direction, that turned out to be wrong. Thankfully, a woman paraded me around the hospital until we found the right place. Once there, two nurses looked at his hand. They debrided it, which is something no Mom should have to witness, or have to put their child through. I can't even describe the agonizing screams that came from my sweet little boy. It was absolutely awful. They re-wrapped his arm, he picked out a new train toy, and we were on our way back home. WHEW!!!
This is him after his bath with his new wrap on, and a new train toy that we picked up from Target.
This is his hand tonight after his bath. It actually looks pretty good from before. We go back on Tuesday for a follow-up, and I hope to be done with the wraps. Between all of his medical supplies, and Kealy teething, I am keeping them both medicated! I feel like I am running my own pharmacy! If only I had the pay to prove it!!! Please keep my little man, and our family in your prayers. It has been a very tough week.
