Move over Lance....here come the Bahrs!!!
Thursday morning we set out around 9:00 to bike 16 miles to the little town of Treloar and have lunch. Fortunately it was a little overcast, so it wasn't too hot. The scenery was beautiful and we just enjoyed the quiet time to ourselves.
It took us about 2 hours to get there, and I couldn't be more happy to see this little sign! Thank God we made it and could give our butts and legs a rest!
We ate lunch at what I'm sure was the only place in town. The population is 60, and it's the type of place where people drive around in pick-ups with their dogs, one guy even drove his tractor to town, parked it under a shade tree, and came in to have lunch. The food was excellent, and the people were so friendly. They even let Eric borrow a wrench so he could adjust the handles on his bike. It was such a cute, friendly little town, but now it was time to make the 16 mile trek home! By now the sun was out in full blaze, but we were still feeling pretty good.
The last 3 miles of the ride were kinda brutal. By then our legs and butts were on FIRE, we were hot, sweaty, thirsty, and tired. Eric said the first 5 years of our marriage must've been a lot more rough on me if I wanted to put him thru this type of punishment when we're supposed to be relaxing! When we got back we collapsed in the cool air conditioning and took a nap before getting cleaned up to head out for dinner.
Before dinner we stopped back at the Stone Hill winery to take a tour of their cellar. There is a lot of history behind this place. The cellars were carved out of limestone and are naturally cool at anywhere from 52-65 degrees! It felt very refreshing.
Then we drove to Washington, MO, about 25 miles east of Hermann, to have dinner at Marquart's Landing. One of the guy's Eric works with cousin owns this restaurant. Again the food was delicious, and it sat right next to the Missouri river.
