Yesterday morning Eric and I took off for Hermann, MO. We made reservations at the Healing Stone B&B down there and were really looking forward to some relaxing days! We checked in and then hit the town for some lunch. Phyllis, the owner of the B&B recommended Wings-A-
Blazin for lunch. They did have really good wings, excellent service, and a really neat story behind how they got their name!

A friend of theirs was teaching a student how to fly when they ran into a flock of turkeys that destroyed their plane. The student bailed out and was safe, and the pilot was able to bail out just before the plane hit the ground. Although he sustained numerous injuries both surveyed. The restaurant proudly displays pieces of the wreckage including the pilot's ejection sheet!
After lunch we walked around downtown to check out the sights. They have a beautiful Catholic church, St. George's. We had to climb the steepest hill ever to get there, but it was gorgeous!

They had beautiful stained glass windows, including this rose window up in the choir loft.

We couldn't miss going to Ricky's chocolate box for a treat. He had some of the neatest and tastiest chocolates there. We will be going back before we leave town.....

We hit up some of the wineries in the afternoon although it was
blazin' hot outside. This is a picture from Oak Glenn winery. They overlook the Missouri river...beautiful views.

Lots and lots of grapes....

This is a picture from the
Hermanhoff winery. I love how the water reflects the clouds and the building. Very neat. We got to check out their wine
cellar and it was nice and cool down there on a hot day.

We went to the Stone Hill winery for dinner and the food was excellent. We'll be going back there today for a tour. After dinner we went back to downtown to get some custard and then sat by the river to watch the sunset. A storm was moving in, so there were lots of clouds, but it was still really nice.

This is a picture from the deck of the Healing Stone. It's out in the country and I'm really glad we picked it. A lot of the other B&B's are in the heart of downtown. This place is nice and quiet and set out in the countryside. It overlooks the bluffs and is surrounded by nature. We have a screened in porch off our room and we sat out there last night for about an hour and watched the lightening. It was awesome!

This morning we had breakfast and are getting ready to hit the Katy Trail. Our goal is to bike 16 miles to the next town and have lunch. We'll see if Eric's old butt can make it!!!
