Sick As Dogs

I knew long before I became a mother that I would never be good at cleaning up puke. I remember the first time Barkley threw up in three different spots in the middle of the night and I was gagging and tearing up trying to help Eric clean. The poor guy learned early on in our marriage that he would probably have to carry the brunt of this dirty job! So, last night we were just getting ready to sit down for dinner when Madison came running into the kitchen, crying, with nastiness all over her face. It was then that I realized she was throwing up. I quickly grabbed a bowl and was able to capture most of it. She hadn't been acting like she was sick, so initially we thought that maybe she gagged herself with the carrot she was snacking on. Until it happened again 30 minutes later, and then 4 more times throughout the night. There is nothing worse than watching a little two year old get sick and trying to catch it before it gets all over house! At about 2:00 AM after she had gotten sick for the 6th time, I was starting to feel sick. I wasn't sure if it was because I was actually sick, or because the whole house reeked of puke. I seriously thought I was going to throw up. I told Eric I didn't feel good, and he said, "me neither" and we both went our separate ways to try and get some sleep. This morning I woke up and called my boss to tell her I wasn't coming in, and then got Kaiden dressed to go to daycare. He wasn't there 30 minutes before Sandra called and said he threw up all of his breakfast and I needed to come get him. GREAT! How come they never get sick on my day off? So I drug Madie out of bed to go pick up her brother. Fortunately neither one has gotten sick again today, and hopefully we'll all be feeling better tomorrow. It's times like these that we really wish we lived closer to family!
