Prenatal Visit

I had a prenatal visit today, and so far everything is continuing to go well. Dr. Doan was pleased with my BP and weight gain so far. I also had to take the glucose test today, which meant choking down an orange drink and then having my blood drawn an hour later. After you finish the drink you can't eat or drink anything, except water, until you have your blood drawn. Not even a piece of gum, and I had the worst taste in my mouth! I seriously thought I was going to throw up.
Some of you may remember that I developed a pregnancy rash towards the end of my pregnancy with Madison. Well, it looks like that rash is going to make a second appearance. Saturday morning my belly was really itchy, and I could feel some bumps. Of course it's on the bottom of my belly, where I can't see, so I'm laying in the chair with a mirror, asking Eric to help me see if there's a rash or not!!! Dr. Doan isn't too concerned right now. She said I could take benadryl for the itching, or steroids can be prescribed if it gets too bad.
The rash is called pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP), and is the most common rash in pregnant women. It's harmless to mother and baby, although the rash can be incredibly itchy!!! I've also read that 70% of women who have this rash give birth to boys, with one study showing that male fetal DNA can be found in skin biopsies of the rash. I'm trying to stay positive, and hope that since it isn't the middle of summer this time that the cooler weather will help. I told Eric I really don't want to be miserable, but I think he's more worried about how miserable I'm going to make him with complaining about all of the itching!!! I start going every two weeks for prenatal visits, and I'm going to have a 3D ultrasound done next time! We did one with Madison and it was absolutely amazing, so I'm really looking forward to doing it again.
